I would like to extend a Legion welcome to everyone involved in our Performing Arts Program at Schurr High School. My name is Steve Furogawa and I am the president of the booster organization.

We have hit a mile stone in our program. This year will be our 40th anniversary of the Schurr Performing Arts Program. This year promises to be exciting year filled with great performances and competitions. We have Dance, Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and our Pageantry groups that perform throughout the school year. Our children practice extremely hard and need support and encouragement from everyone, especially their own parents. There are different ways you can show your support. First, you can volunteer to help. We try to keep costs down by getting volunteers to help with anything and everything. Another way to help the program is by fundraising. This organization cannot exist without your financial support. Funds we raise help purchase equipment, pay for repairs for equipment and instruments, pay for competition fees, ETC. Our fund raising commitment this year will be $200 per student. By each student meeting the $200 fundraising pledge and with parents and family members volunteering, we will have another fantastic and exciting year. With our state facing more massive budget cutbacks and the school district looking for areas to cut, we will need to be at our fundraising best this entire year. We need immediate help with our monthly recycling program. We need volunteers to help us collect recyclables from various houses from booster supporters who continue to support the program but cannot deliver them to the school. These route volunteers drive to various houses and collect recyclables left for pick up. Two routes of 12 houses each and one route of 6 houses. If three people could help and each takes a route, your help would be most appreciated. We are talking less than 1 hour of help, once month, on the second Saturday of each month. Let me know if you can help.

Our music director’s Mr. Castro, and Dr. Rardin are looking forward to another fantastic year! We are extremely fortunate to have such a two dedicated instructors for our children. They have shown their commitment to the program. Now the students will have to show theirs, by coming to practices and rehearsals and showing up to events.

We try to keep the lines of communication open by sending out emails to better to keep you informed! The easiest way is to look at our web site. You can check our monthly calendar and get information about upcoming events by going to schurrmusic.org. You can also email any of the board members from this site with any questions or concerns. If you have not been receiving any emails from the boosters, send us your email address so we can add you to our list. This year we will have a monthly e-legion newsletter sent once a month to provide information about each month events. If you do not use the computer, you can come to our monthly booster meetings which are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7p.m. in the band room. Everyone is welcome.

With your help, we will keep the performing arts program a continued success. See you all soon.
