Director Antonio Castro

Under the direction of Antonio Castro, the 145 plus Schurr High School Spartan Legion membership comes from students from every grade level.  It is the largest and most visible  student organization on the Schurr High School Campus.  The Spartan Legion is an award winning music program in the City of Montebello and consists of the Marching Band, Colorguard, Drill Team and Orchestra.  We are very proud to represent our City and the surrounding communities by performing at competitions and community service events.  In addition, the Spartan Legion participates in school pep rallies, home football and basketball games, graduation and at other selected school functions.  This time-honored organization combines quality musicianship, academics, school spirit, pride and dedication to our role in the community.

This school year, The Schurr High School Spartan Legion was invited to march and represent Schurr High School in the Waikiki Holiday Parade in Oahu, HI. The Waikiki Holiday Parade commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor by honoring survivors and Veterans in memory of the attacks from December 7, 1941.  Our students visited the USS Missouri and the USS Bowfin and had the honor to play a patriotic selection of music for our Veterans.  While at the Pearl Harbor National Park, they also visited the USS Arizona Memorial and proudly flew the U.S. flag and presented a wreath at the Memorial.

In 2018-2019, the Spartan Legion will be traveling to Rome, Italy to take part in the New Years Parade.

Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Rardin,  is an intensive program for string musicians seeking to develop their talent, understanding, and passion for music.  Emphasis is placed on the improvement of ensemble playing. This orchestra performs at school concerts and community events. Orchestra members show an above average understanding of their instrument and display a high level of musical sophistication through their performance.
